How it works

GPA = Σ(grade × units) ÷ Σ(units)

  1. Multiply each course grade by its credit units to get a weighted grade.
  2. Add all weighted grades together.
  3. Add all credit units together.
  4. Divide the total weighted grade by the total units.

Frequently asked questions

What grade scale does this use?

The Philippine 1.00–5.00 scale where 1.00 is the highest grade (typically ~97–100) and 5.00 is failing. Some schools use 1.00, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0, and so on in 0.25 increments.

How is a weighted GPA different from a simple average?

A weighted GPA multiplies each grade by its credit units, so heavier courses (more units) count more. This matches how most Philippine universities compute a general weighted average (GWA).

What if my school uses a different scale?

This calculator is designed for the 1.00–5.00 scale. If your school uses a percentage or 4.0 US-style scale, convert each grade first, or wait for our upcoming scale converter.

Do failed subjects count?

Yes. Enter the failing grade (5.00) and its units to include it in the weighted average — that's how a GWA is normally computed.

How is GPA Calculator Philippines (1.00–5.00 scale) calculated?

GPA = Σ(grade × units) ÷ Σ(units)
